NURS-FPX4030 Assessment 3 PICOT Questions and an Evidence-Based Approach
For this assessment, select an issue of interest an apply the PICO(T) process to define the question and research it. Your initial goal is to define the population, intervention, comparison, and outcome. In some cases, a time frame is relevant and you should include that as well, when writing a question you can research related to your issue of interest.
After you define your question, research it, and organize your initial findings, select the two sources of evidence that seem the most relevant to your question and analyze them in more depth. Specifically, interpret each source’s specific findings and best practices related to your issues, as well explain how the evidence would help you plan and make decisions related to your question.
If you need some structure to organize your initial thoughts and research, the PICOT Question and Research Template document (accessible from the “Create PICO(T) Questions” page in the Capella library’s Evidence Based Practice guide) might be helpful. In your submission, make sure you address the following grading criteria:
- Define a practice issue to be explored via a PICO(T) approach.
- Identify sources of evidence that could be potentially effective in answering a PICO(T) question.
- Explain the findings from articles or other sources of evidence.
- Explain the relevance of the findings from chosen sources of evidence to making decision related to a PICO(T) question.
- Communicate using writing that is clear, logical, and professional with correct grammar and spelling using current APA style.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Your assessment should meet the following requirements:
- Length of submission: Create a 3–5-page submission focused on defining a research question and interpreting evidence relevant to answering it. A title page is not required but you must include a reference list.
- Number of references: Cite a minimum of four sources of scholarly or professional evidence that support your findings and considerations. Resources should be no more than 5 years old.
- APA formatting: Format references and citations according to current APA style.

PICOT Question and Evidence-Based Approach
The evidence-based approach entails combining current research, clinical expertise, and patient values and preferences in clinical decision-making and care delivery (Alqahtani et al., 2020). Scientific research is guided by the research question, often developed using the PICOT format, an evidence-based method comprised of the population (P), intervention (I), comparison (C), outcome (O), and time (T) (Hosseini et al., 2024). PICOT question is practically a search strategy that delineates the search terms that can be used to find the best research evidence to help answer clinical questions. Nurses must learn to develop appropriate and correct PICOT questions as according to Hosseini et al. (2024), most clinical questions remain unanswered due to poorly developed PICOT questions, which eventually derail evidence-based practice (EBP). This paper focuses on developing a PICOT question focused on addressing the practice issue of poor management of diabetes mellitus (DM), particularly type 2 (T2DM). It includes the PICOT question, evidence sources, findings of articles/ sources, and their relevance.
PICOT Question
Managing T2DM requires the use of not only pharmacological but also non-pharmacological approaches including diet, exercise, stress management, blood sugar monitoring, etc. to improve glycemic control, patients’ quality of life, and health outcomes. For decades, T2DM has been categorized as a chronic illness that cannot be managed without a cure. However, current research is increasingly focusing on diabetes remission, with many suggesting the efficacy of lifestyle modifications in achieving diabetes remission. Clinical research is needed to answer the question of whether a calorie-restricted diet (CRD), one of the lifestyle modifications, can help achieve diabetes remission. The PICOT question developed is “In adults with T2DM (P), how does an intermittent calorie-restricted diet (I) compared to usual care (C) affect the likelihood of diabetes remission (O) over 12 months (T)?”
Sources of Evidence
The databases and sources used to find evidence relevant to the PICOT question include PubMed, Cochrane Library, CINAHL, 2024 American Diabetes Association (ADA) clinical….Click on the PayPal icon below to purchase full solution for $10
