Solution: NR703 Week 5 Discussion Leading Through Ethical Relationships
One health inequity identified in our community is disproportionately high maternal mortality among Black women, compared to Whites. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), every year, about 50,000 women in the nation suffer pregnancy-related complications, with Blacks being affected with a three-fold higher probability of dying from such complications, than Whites (CDC, 2024). Some contributing factors to these disparities are systemic barriers, implicit bias in healthcare, limited access to prenatal care, and socioeconomic factors as factors. Many women in marginalized communities receive inadequate prenatal and postpartum care, leading to preventable complications and poor birth outcomes (Njoku et al., 2023).
The solution I propose to address this inequity is the development of a Community-Based Maternal Health Program (CBMHP) that integrates midwifery-led care, culturally competent training for providers, and patient-centered interventions to improve maternal health outcomes (Falako et al., 2023).
