    • Consider the research you collected for your PICOT question. Discuss steps researchers took to protect the rights of human subjects. What additional measures would you recommend?
    • Describe common disparities in biomedical research. Did you find evidence of disparities in the articles you reviewed for your PICOT question? If so, what were your findings?

Cases like the Tuskegee Syphilis Study and the Nuremberg Code violations stress the consequences of inadequate ethical oversight and informed consent (Spellecy & Busse, 2021). Understanding these events fosters a profound respect for ethical guidelines, such as those outlined in the Belmont Report, which prioritizes respect for persons, beneficence, and justice (Spellecy & Busse, 2021).

For my PICOT question, “In postoperative adult surgical patients (Population), what is the effect of Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocols (Intervention) in comparison to standard opioid-centered pain management (Comparison) on postoperative pain levels (Outcomes) within the first 30 days post-surgery (Time)?”, the studies I reviewed adhered to robust ethical practices. For instance, Chiewhatpong et al. (2022) conducted a randomized controlled trial with pre-study ethics committee approval and ensured informed consent from all participants.
