General Instructions

Advanced practice nurses must be equipped to critique scholarly literature and discern its value for application to practice. Select one current clinical practice guideline (CPG) related to your PICOT question. If a relevant CPG does not exist, choose a CPG related to another topic. Appraise the CPG using the Rapid Critical Appraisal Questions to Ask of Evidence-Based Guidelines (Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt, 2023, Box 8.4). Summarize your appraisal of the CPG in your own words.

Include the following sections:

  1. Credibility
  2. Who developed the CPG?
The clinical practice guideline (CPG) for Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) in colorectal surgery was developed by the ERAS Society, which comprises a multidisciplinary group of international experts in perioperative care. This collaborative effort ensures that the guidelines are grounded in a broad range of expertise (Gustafsson et al., 2019).
  3. Who funded the CPG?
The ERAS Society, a non-profit organization, funded the development of this CPG (Gustafsson et al., 2019). The ERAS Society typically relies on institutional support, academic partnerships, and possibly industry sponsorships to facilitate the research and development of their guidelines.
  4. Has the CPG been peer-reviewed?
The CPG has been peer reviewed since its publication is in a reputable, peer-reviewed journal—World Journal of Surgery (Gustafsson et al., 2019).
  5. Comprehensiveness
  6. What method was used to identify, select, or combine evidence?
The authors conducted a comprehensive database search for relevant literature, focusing on high-quality studies such as meta-analyses, randomized controlled trials, and large prospective cohorts. The Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE) system was used to evaluate the quality of the evidence and to formulate recommendations based on this assessment (Gustafsson et al., 2019).
  7. Was a current, comprehensive literature review included?
The CPG includes a thorough literature review that encompasses studies published up until October 2017 (Gustafsson et al., 2019). This review ensures that the guidelines are based on the most recent and relevant evidence, addressing the evolving nature of perioperative care.

Were all important options considered?
The guidelines consider a wide range of options related to perioperative care, including preadmission education, nutritional optimization, and postoperative pain management strategies. Each component of the ERAS protocol is…..Click on the PayPal icon below to purchase full solution for $5
