The clinical problem identified is the overreliance on opioid prescriptions for post-operative pain management. More than 80% of surgical patients use opioids for pain management, out of which about 10% continue using for prolonged periods postoperative periods, increasing the risk of addiction,  overdose, and related adverse effects such as respiratory depression, cognitive impairment, and gastrointestinal issues (nausea and constipation) (Dowell, 2022; Hyland et al., 2021). Multimodal pain management interventions that use non-opioid interventions, particularly Enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS), can help reduce overreliance on opioids for pain management (Dowell, 2022; Echeverria-Villalobos et al., 2020; Langnas et al., 2021; Lawal et al., 2020; Levytska et al., 2022).
