Solution: NR584NP Week 1 Discussion Quality & Safety

One significant client-focused quality and safety issue highly pertinent to advanced nursing practice (APN) is hospital-acquired infections (HAIs).

Scope and Impact

HAIs include various infections such as catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTIs), central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSIs), surgical site infections (SSIs), and ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) (Alrebish et al., 2022). These infections result from invasive procedures, inadequate infection control practices, or the patient’s exposure to resistant bacteria while in the healthcare environment. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC] (2024), approximately 1 in 31 hospital patients will develop at least one HAI during their stay. HAIs contribute to about 99,000 deaths per annum in the United States (CDC, 2024). HAIs are associated with poorer health outcomes including increased recovery period, morbidity, and mortality, increased hospitalization periods, financial strain, and risk of antibiotic resistance, and thus, the need for nurse-led interventions to prevent and reduce their risk of developing (Alrebish et al., 2022; CDC, 2024).

Role of Advanced Practice Nurses

Advanced practice nurses (APNs) have central roles in ensuring patient safety, which includes addressing HAIs. Among these roles is advocating for HAI prevention policies and practices including evidence-based guidelines, standardized hand hygiene protocols, environmental….Click on the PayPal icon below to purchase full solution for $5
